PRODUCTS & PROCESSES Lesonal 2K Ultra Air Clear offers two routes to drive up speed and effi ciency Launching its latest aid to bodyshop productivity and profi tability, AkzoNobel’s Vehicle Refi nishes business emphasizes that there is more than one way of driving up speed and effi ciency. Its new innovative premium clearcoat, Lesonal 2K Ultra Air Clear has been formulated to allow a flexible and confi dent choice between air-drying and baking. “Whichever drying option you choose, you can be sure of the same high-quality gloss finish,” explains Mick Finch, AkzoNobel’s Technical Coordinator. “This robust product gives consistent premium results whether you bake it for 5 minutes at 60°C or leave it to dry for 45 minutes at ambient temperature.” One of the clearcoat’s immediate advantages is in optimizing use of spray booths. If space is needed for another job, after just a 5-minute flash-off, you can remove the vehicle or panel for air-drying, reducing the risk of dust contamination and making room in the booth for the next job. Allowing for a little variation due to the bodyshop’s ambient temperature and humidity level, and the hardener chosen, it will take between 30 and 45 minutes to fully dry. Another way to free up a booth, or to meet tight deadlines, is to bake the clearcoat. The paintwork is ready to polish directly after cooling down to ambient temperature, with a drying time of only 5 minutes at 60°C. Lesonal Ultra Air Clear easily outperforms competition on energy consumption, booth occupation and cycle times. “For each job, you simply choose the drying route that fits best with your workflow,” says Mick. “That will depend on repair size, booth availability, and whether you want to prioritise faster finishing or lower energy consumption.” 78 Along with these benefits, Lesonal 2K Ultra Air Clear is designed to improve bodyshop efficiency with savings on time and material consumption at every stage. Easy mixing, with a simple 1:1 ratio, is followed by a straightforward and reliable application process which covers in 1.5 coats. When working on several panels there is no need for flash-offs, so one-stop application is possible. Polishing effort is also low. Mick concludes: “With a genuine choice of saving energy costs or increased throughput, and no compromise on finish quality, 2K Ultra Air Clear puts unprecedented flexibility in your hands. We see this development as an important milestone for bodyshops on the road to reaching their full potential.” Visit: www.akzonobel.com AUGUST 2019 read online: www.surfaceworld.com
