WHY
FRANCHISE?
Owning your own business can be a very tempting idea.
The notion that you can choose your own hours and create
your own empire is an appealing concept. “Inside Startups”
estimates 1 in 5 businesses fail in the UK within the first 12
months, 1 in 3 fail within three years, and in the following
three years, 50% of the remaining businesses fail.
In contrast, the 2014 (January) BFA & NatWest franchise
survey shows that 92% of franchises in the UK are profitable
and 49% claimed to be very profitable. Franchising may
be a far more logical decision for the person who is ready
to make a change but wants the security of a proven
business concept.
THE INDUSTRY
According to the DVSA around 750,000 people are
learning to drive each year, of whom 99% choose to take
lessons from professional instructors. The total spent on
driving lessons per year is estimated to be around £1.1 bn.
It is also estimated that each learner, on average, requires
50 hours of professional instruction, which means on
average each pupil is spending around £1,500.
The DVSA statistics clearly indicates becoming a driving
instructor can be very profitable.
