Some parents worry that time away from school will cause their child to
fall behind, but researchers increasingly believe family travel is one of
the best learning experiences you can give your child. It’s a sentiment
echoed by WONDER MEYER , now 30, and INDYGO WINSHIP , now 16,
who both travelled the world with their parents for more than a year as
young children. We asked them to share what they learnt through this
unconventional upbringing.

of school in grade two and home-schooled
me while we did a round-the-world, two-year
yacht trip from South Africa to St Helena,
Brazil, the Caribbean, Panama, French
Polynesia, the South Pacific, New Zealand,
Australia, Indonesia and Malaysia.
Home-schooling was not at all common
at the time, and we didn’t have much of a
plan at all. We ended up cobbling together a
curriculum from books we gathered along the
way from various countries.
I struggled with seasickness a bit on the
yacht, and learning to write in cursive on
a constantly pitching boat was almost
