Whether you’re a seasoned adventurer or
a complete rookie, you should never be
without a reliable head torch.
Petzl’s Nao+ rechargeable headlamp
has reactive lighting technology, which
changes the intensity of the 750-lumen
beam according to your immediate
conditions (no more fiddling with settings
as you go). It’s also fully customisable with
a smartphone app for iOS and Android,
allowing you to change the beam pattern,
brightness and battery burn time.
While it is more expensive than most
headlamps on the market, it’s also more
powerful (lights up to 140m ahead) and
built for adventure. A well designed top
strap ensures it stay in place during the
most strenuous activities, from trekking
to trail running, and everything in-between.
RRP from R1 800
GoPros have long been a favourite with
adventure enthusiasts for their durability,
compact design, live social media
streaming and clever mounts that stick to
everything, from a snowboard or a helmet
to a car dash.
The Hero 7 Black once again ups the
ante: its powerful GP1 chip claims twice
the performance of its predecessors
and can record photos at 12 megapixels
or full 4K high definition video.
Tough, tiny, and waterproof to 10m,
the biggest leap forward on the Hero 7
Black is the “HyperSmooth” gimbal-like
video stabilisation and its ability to
shoot in portrait mode (for the Insta
stories, of course). Other cool features?
An intuitive touch screen, time lapse video
and voice control.

A bird’s eye view is all the rage
these days when it comes to
capturing your travel exploits
from a unique perspective, but
few come close to delivering
the incredible image and video
quality of the Mavic Pro 2.
For their latest release, DJI
partnered with high-end Swedish
camera makers Hasselblad to
somehow package a one-inch
sensor inside a compact body
that delivers unbeatable photo
and video quality in its class.
The Mavic 2 Pro is a fraction
bigger than its predecessor
but still has the same durable,
foldable design that makes it
perfect for travelling and boasts
a longer battery life, with flights
lasting up to 31 minutes. There
are also plenty of improved
features like hyperlapse, object
tracking and crash-proof sensors.
But quality doesn’t come
cheap – the Mavic Pro 2 will set
you back upwards of R30 000
before you even start to add
any extras, which might make
far more affordable options
like the Parrot Anafi and DJI
Spark worth considering. But if
you’re looking for a drone that
blends professional quality with
consumer usability, you can’t
beat the Mavic Pro 2.
RRP from R30 999
