Automated Negotiation for Future Supply Chains
DTC ' s Industrial AI Agent Manifesto [ 33 ]( 2026), argues that autonomous AI agents are becoming significant in industrial operations and that deploying them without adequate governance is a risk to be managed carefully. Automated negotiation supplies one component of such governance: a verifiable record of what was offered, what was conceded, and on whose authority.
4.4 PATTERN 4— INTEGRATION WITH ERPS: IFS LOOPS SUPPLIER ORDER MANAGER
Standalone negotiation tools have natural limitations; integration with the system of record is often necessary for full operational effect. In May 2025, NEC and IFS announced a strengthened strategic partnership [ 11 ] in which IFS will incorporate AI solutions from NEC ' s BluStellar— including the technology that automates the negotiation and coordination of procurement transactions with suppliers— into its solutions and offer them to IFS customers globally. The partnership was further expanded on 16 January 2026 [ 34 ], with the joint statement that NEC ' s automated negotiation AI will be applied to areas within supply-chain operations such as delivery schedules and quantity negotiations— areas that have traditionally relied on the experience and intuition of skilled professionals and have been considered difficult to automate.
Supplier Order Manager( SOM). The first commercial expression of this collaboration is the Supplier Order Manager agent inside IFS Loops, IFS ' s AI-agent platform. SOM is framed as a Supervisor Agent for supplier communication: it autonomously manages and streamlines supplier interactions, handling confirmations, delays and follow-ups to ensure timely and structured procurement communications. Its skill set is composed of five operational capabilities: Email Parsing( reading supplier e-mails and attachments to extract confirmations, changes and intent without manual review), Supplier Coordination( tracking responses, follow-ups and next steps across ongoing purchase orders), Supplier Communication( structured, consistent outbound messaging that avoids ambiguity), Email Composition( drafting clear, professional e-mails for confirmations, reminders and clarifications based on PO context), and Supplier Negotiation( supporting back-and-forth discussions on dates, quantities or terms by capturing changes, highlighting trade-offs, and escalating when approval is needed). Figure 5-3 sketches how these five skills compose into a single inbound-email-to-ERP pipeline, with the Supervisor Agent enforcing guardrails and escalating exceptions to the human order manager. The fourth skill— Supplier Negotiation— is the natural insertion point for NEC’ s Negotiation AI under the NEC – IFS partnership, providing the principled bargaining substrate beneath SOM’ s orchestration.
