EDITOR’S NOTE
It’s Time to Train
Oceans Marathon Training Guide, with four-month
training programmes for three different target times
in the Ultra Marathon, and another three covering the
Half Marathon. What you need to do is choose the
programme that suits your running ability and goals,
and then get to work.
This Training Guide is brought to you by Modern
Athlete magazine, SA’s biggest running publication,
in conjunction with the Old Mutual Two Oceans
Marathon. The idea to produce this guide first came
up in conversation with the OMTOM Team a year or
so ago, as we had collectively identified a need for a
Two Oceans-specific training guide, and we’re really
happy to see the project come alive in this handy A5
format that you can easily take with you anywhere for
quick reference.

sk anybody that has run along Chapman’s
Peak Drive during the Old Mutual Two Oceans
Marathon and they’ll tell you exactly why it’s
called the world’s most beautiful marathon. And ask
anybody that has been part of the incredible vibe of
the Half Marathon and they’ll tell you why there is
such a huge demand for entries every year. Simply
put, this is one of those must-do events that every
runner wants to be part of, and now it’s time for those
who are entered to put in the training to get to the
start line on 31 March 2018 ready to race. The training programmes were written by the team
of experts at the Sport Science Institute of South
Africa, the official training partner of the OMTOM,
and you can have full confidence that these training
programmes will get you to the start in peak form and
fitness, because the SSISA team includes a number
of highly experienced Two Oceans Marathon runners
who have literally been there and done that. So now
it’s all about putting the mileage in, and I wish you all
the best for the next four months of training.
