“ You can’ t out-supplement an unhealthy diet!”

- Dr Brannick Riggs, Vice President of Essential Oil Education
The physical body is a very complicated machine, and we are only just starting to understand its intricacies. While there is still much for us to learn, it’ s well known that diet plays a vital role in our health and effective supplementation can support our daily lives.
Our cells require cofactors or micronutrients to work optimally. Many years ago, we could get all those requirements from our food. However, in the past few decades, our food has become more nutrient deficient and calorie dense, meaning that the modern-day diet requires supplementation.
We know that the better our microbiome is, the better we digest food. The microbiome is now considered a“ silent endocrine organ”, composed of bacteria, viruses, and fungi. This group of living organisms make neurotransmitters, hormones, and other molecules that our bodies cannot make for themselves.
Lastly, we understand how important our lifestyle is, in particular, the need to move daily, get enough sleep, manage stress, and reduce toxic exposure:
• Did you know that our bodies are made up of about 50 % muscle? Muscles are a“ use it or lose it” organ system; we must exercise to keep them healthy and strong.
• Sleep is the ultimate aid to recovery! 7-9 hours a night restores the system and resets our hormone levels.
• Stress can wreak havoc on our adrenal glands and constantly bathe our cells in steroids- we must keep our stress under control.
• The number of toxins in the world today is increasing at an alarming rate. We should identify exposure and eliminate what we can.
As a physician, I see the effects on people who are either not aware of these facts or simply don’ t make them a priority. No matter where you are in life, find the time now to take your body seriously, and trust me when I tell you that it is much easier to maintain your body than it is to repair. Consider the words in this guide, evaluate for yourself what your needs are, and set some goals where you need to improve your wellness.
Best wishes,
Brannick B. Riggs, MD
