What is life on the road like? You have transported animals, food, and cement – what is the key to getting to your destination every day? Trucking is not an easy business. But it is one I respect and love. Every morning when I wake up, whether it is at home or in one of my trucks, I pray for my safety and the safety of others, I pray for my family and I pray that the journey is a good one. I make sure my trucks are in shape and if I am tired I sleep – my safety and that of others are more important than how much money I make. I have drivers now, so I don’t have to drive so much anymore, but it is just about being prepared and trusting in God. In your opinion Des, what are the best characteristics to have, whether you are a superstar, a model or a trucker? It is working hard, being grateful for every little thing you are and have, and staying humble. I tell you, I never thought a Supermodel Magazine would interview me, but the role model in any career is staying true and working as hard as possible. You are the eldest son of a great man and woman. The late Paul Kubersky who was a respected building contractor and your late mother Catherine who was a passionate teacher – how important do you think honouring where you come from is, in any business or private life? It is important to know what you stand for. My parents stood for class and they both loved music and laughter. I love music and laughter and it fills my life with so much joy. Both my late parents were hard workers and you will see that in us as their children. What is currently on your priority list? My health! I really see that I must start exercising again, because it is affecting my happiness. If I am healthy, I am happy. So I want to get back to my health and be in the best shape for my best life. Any last words of advice to anyone embarking on big dreams? Have a plan! My brother in law assisted with getting the right meeting with the right person, but the rest followed with a good business plan, a vision and keeping my books in order. Take steps that lead you to your goal. You will never just wake up a success. It takes sacrifice, commitment and a sense of humour to make it in any business in the world.
