LOUW BREYTENBACH –THE PERFORMER
Louw Breytenbach is an avid performer and entrepreneur
from Johannesburg. Louw’s flair for acting and the performing arts started very early on as he took acting classes from
the 6th grade. This paid off tremendously, as the experience
he gained from school theatre help him to qualify for the SA
Team of Performing Arts in 2005.
He participated in the World Championships in
Los Angeles, USA, and was awarded with
Over All Performer of the World for age
groups 16-24. A few years later he returned to
LA to develop his skills as actor and model
under renowned trainer, Michael Madox. That
year he once again claimed the title of World
Champion and also received a bursary from
the New York School of Film and Television.
His hometown of Boksburg awarded him the
5 Celebrity of the Year Award in the arts category.
This talented young man is also a keen writer
and in 2007 his first book, Volmaakte Gebrokenheid, was published. In 2011 he completed
his three year Drama Licentiate Diploma at the
top of his class from the South African Drama
College.
In 2012 he returned to New York for acting
classes with Ron Milky (I Know What You Did
Last Summer). In the same year he was
chosen to be part of the South African Drama
Guild as one of its youngest members.
He has since travelled the world to perform in as
many as 13 countries including America, Hong
Kong and Croatia. On home soil, Louw has also
performed in an array of plays.
In 2014 he was asked by Media24 to work at
“Tweesent” and kknk.co.za (the KKNK-festival
website) as journalist to review shows. This also
launched the newly formed initiative of Die Reviewer, a social media-entertainment website of
which he is the founder.
In May 2014 he was seen in the self-written show
Die Derde Verdieping alongside Zoricke Snyman
which was also performed in Potchefstroom
during the recent Aardklop Festival (directed by
Jannes Erasmus). He also recently completed the
film, Midnight Pretoria, in which he plays the
male lead scheduled for release 2015.
On the charity front, Louw is an ambassador for
Toys for Africa and actively involved in community theatre to uplift community members of his
hometown in the East Rand. Nine students are
also sponsored by the Ekurhuleni Municipality as
part of the theatre’s “upliftment through Drama
Education Programme”.
