Discovery
A team of U.S. astronomers have discovered the most distant
known galaxy, whose light was emitted when the universe
was only 5 percent of its present age of 13 thousand 800 million years.
The galaxy, dubbed z8-GND-5296, born when the universe
emerged from the Big Bang was only 700 million years, "and
what makes it unique compared to other similar discoveries is
that the distance has been confirmed by a spectrograph"
says the astronomer Bahram Mobasher
