Wind Driven Rains
Insurance policies define wind driven rain as rain that enters an opening into the home because of the wind . Rain , wind , wind driven rains and hail are covered by most business owner , renter and homeowner policies . Regardless of the cause , wind driven rains are covered similarly to other perils , like lightening , rain and wind . However , damage caused by wind driven rains may not be covered by the policy if the loss is the result of poor homeowner maintenance , opposed to forces of nature .
If wind driven rain damages the property because the roof was already in need of repair , the insurance policy may not offer coverage . If wind driven rain damages the property because an opening was created by a tree or other natural forces , the insurance policy is likely to provide coverage . Puddles and water damage in the home resulting from a wind-damaged door , window , or hole in the roof or wall qualify as windstorm-related damage , opposed to flood-related .

This endorsement is designed to provide coverage for any physical loss to the property resulting from waterborne material or a discharge of water from a sump , drain or sewer . The NFIP defines floods as a general and temporary condition of complete or partial inundation of two or more acres or properties that are normally dry .
Generally speaking , business , renter and homeowner insurance policies don ’ t provide coverage for flooding . If you want to protect personal property , a business or a home from a flood , you ’ ll need to obtain a flood insurance policy separately . When the property is in a location designated by FEMA as a high-risk flood zone , finalizing the mortgage transaction may require purchasing a separate flood insurance policy .
Sewer Backups
Coverage for sewer backups is typically not included in the standard insurance policy . When the drainage system is overloaded by massive volumes of water , sewage backups are likely to occur . When flood water rise above the basement drains , water is then pushed into
Most endorsements for sewage backup are relatively inexpensive . The policyholder chooses from specific amounts of coverage designated for mitigating the damage and cleaning up after the backup , cleaning ducts and replacing carpets , drywall and personal
