Sitting down or standing up?
10ft (ish) boards are still the best selling SUPs in
the UK – and it’s not hard to understand why. The
all-round shape, ample volume, stable platform
and versatility is exactly what many stand up
paddlers want. Great for general sweeping, a little
bit of surfing, exploring your local put in and
perfect family days at the beach/river/lake.
There’s a change coming, however. Slowly we’re
starting to see a shift in thinking and UK SUPers
have been spotted experimenting with
alternative bits of kit – paddles as well!

The current crop of 2015 stand up paddle boards
feature lots of innovative design traits which make
dropping/using a size smaller than you would’ve
previously a very real possibility – especially in the
SUP surfing arena. And touring boards – the all-terrain
vehicle of choice for seasoned paddlers – are now
more applicable than ever for SUPers wanting a do it
all sled. And let’s not forget all those other areas of
SUP where kit has never been so versatile and
abundant.

While your go to SUP will always remain, 2015 will see
the market flooded with the most amount of kit we’ve
ever seen. Brands appear to be springing up every five
minutes and there’s a raft of demo events across the
British Isles this season. And that’s your – yes, you
the reader! – green light for getting out for a float on
as much gear as you can.
