BSUPA – for the love of SUP
•
Although a number of committee members have been and
gone the BSUPA and its goals have remained unchanged.
Richard Marsh now heads up the national governing body
and continues to spearhead figure the organisation with
SUP’s best interests at heart.
•
Coaching – through an accredited BSUPA coaching
scheme, accredited BSUPA schools and hire centres
and promoting good practice.
•
Safety – through working with RNLI, ROSPA, AALA and
government and non-government organisations to
promote safety.
•
Other organisations – BSUPA intends to build good
relationships with other organisations and NGBs.
The 2014 BSUPA schedule is a packed one indeed,
culminating with the National SUP surfing Champs at
Watergate Bay, Cornwall, on October 4, followed by the
National SUP race Champs held two weeks later on October
18, Kingsbridge, Devon. At the end of the year the overall
winners will be crowned in each discipline and if years past
are anything to go by, the coming months will feature even
higher levels of competitive prowess on display. Trophies
are coveted and you can bet your bottom dollar there’s
plenty of training happening right now in anticipation of
event day.
Development – growing the sport through SUP clubs,
schools, SUP events in flat water, surf and inland
waterways.
•
Members – to provide access to waterways, third party
insurance, advice, information and a focal point for
stand up paddling.
•
Back in 2007 a group of individuals formed the British
Stand Up Paddle Board Association as a way to help
drive the sport forwards in the UK, provide a national
coaching scheme, organise competitions and help
guide UK SUP in a positive direction.
Representation – to ensure that the sport of stand up
paddling is looked after by stand up paddle boarders,
to work with the SUP industry and other relevant
associations in the best interest of stand up paddle
boarding and BSUPA members.
BSUPA will be continuing to help promote SUP from all
corners but they’re always looking for new ideas, feedback
and comments.
