ABOUT JIM MILLER …
I BEGAN MY LOVE FOR THE OUTDOORS NEARLY 30 YEARS AGO WHEN BEING TAKEN UP MOUNTAINS , ONTO RIVERS AND TO THE SEA AS A CHILD . I WOULD REGULARLY RUN AHEAD INTO THE MOUNTAINS , SIT ON A ROCK AND ADMIRE THE VIEWS AND THIS HELPED ME TO DEVELOP A TRUE PASSION FOR THE OUTDOOR ENVIRONMENT .
I REGULARLY ENGAGE IN ALL DISCIPLINES OF PADDLESPORTS AND HAVE THE PRIVILEGE OF BEING A NATIONAL TRAINER FOR WHITE WATER
SUP AND OTHER DISCIPLINES AS WELL AS SITTING ON DIFFERENT DISCIPLINE AND TECHNICAL COMMITTEES . I AM A PROVIDER IN DIFFERENT SCA / BC AWARDS WHICH I DELIVER IN CANOE , KAYAK , SUP AND RAFTS . I AM CURRENTLY ON THE HALA AND WERNER ( SYSTEM X ) SUP TEAMS FOR WHITE WATER PADDLEBOARDING AND LOVE PUSHING THE LIMITS OF WHAT IS POSSIBLE . I AM KEEN TO SHARE MY PASSION AND ENJOYMENT WITH AS MANY AS POSSIBLE AND I LOVE BEING ON A SUP – A HUGE SMILE JUST CROSSES MY FACE . I HOPE TO SEE YOU ALL ON THE WATER AT SOME POINT !

Stern brace
This stroke is very similar to the low brace , except it is positioned at the back of the SUP . This obviously takes more weight to the back and lifts the nose up more . It is convenient when surfing waves as we can place the paddle on top of the foam pile behind us or even on small waves behind the foam pile in the marginally less aerated water , allowing for more support on the blade with the water .
It is easier at the back of the board to swing the paddle into more of a pry or stern rudder , allowing for directional control on the SUP while surfing . This stroke also comes in handy when going over any drops as it allows us to remain in contact with the water for a long and helps to lift the nose of the SUP for longer , allowing for a more horizontal board to connect the water , which in turn means we are less likely to get shot off the front on landing .
Back brace
This one is similar to the previous two - the paddle is placed on the water behind you to support you from losing balance backwards . However , this comes at quite a significant risk ! You can ’ t see behind you and don ’ t know if it is shallow or deep . If it is shallow , this stroke could easily result in shoulder
