CULTURE AND SOCIAL LIFE
Ramblings from a British Mind
As I write this document the UK is
suffering bad weather. We are having snow
and wind and rain. However when I consider the
levels of snow you get in Russia I feel almost
embarrassed to mention it. As a nation we are
used to a fairly mild temperate climate, and
consequently don't deal with extremes of
weather very well. A small amount of snow will
close airports and stop trains! Apparently the
excuse is that we get the wrong kind of snow. I
thought snow was just snow. I personally
believe it`s an excuse for being unprepared for
the weather.
I hope at this point in this missive, you
have all noticed two different spellings of
weather. Weather is to do with the climate,
and whether is describing a choice, i.e.
whether to go out or stay in this evening.
Anyway, I apologize for the rambling
nature of this document, but I hope it helps
you all with your studies of my native language.
Take heart from the fact that it is one of the
hardest languages to learn unless you were
born where it is spoken, and is a common
language worldwide.
