ART My World of Colours Ekaterina Malysheva BSPU, Blagoveshchensk (Russia) My favourite hobby is drawing. I started drawing when I was three. I remember that my mother always encouraged me and praised my funny drawings. She even decorated our house with them. And the best presents on my parents' and grandparents' birthdays were also my drawings. Of course, I was pleased and quite proud of my works. When I was 10, I tried to study at special art school but, you see, I lived in a small town and my school was closed because there were few people that's why I couldn`t but draw at home every day. Certainly, I took part in different school drawing competitions and, by the way, I succeeded in it. Furthermore, my painting teacher was so amazed by the pictures I made that he asked my parents` permission to exhibit them. It was one of the biggest events in my life and since then this hobby has become a very important part of my being. I like putting on a sheet everything that I see around myself or that arises in my imagination. I like to walk looking at the beautiful world which surrounds me. I stop to get the tools and begin to draw. I am fond of combining forms and colours into a harmonious unity. I use different tones. They can be cool and restful, delicate and soft. I must say that it's not an easy activity and it takes me a lot of time and effort. Sometimes I am not quite satisfied with my works so I leave and finish them only for the second, third and fourth time. Some words about the materials. To be honest, I usually use pencils of different thickness because I don't like watercolor or gouache very much. Although I prefer paper to watercolor. It's funny but it is. When it comes to creating a new picture I derive extra ideas from famous artists` works and their life experience. It helps a lot and gives a new perspective. For example, my favourite artist is Ivan Aivazovsky. In my opinion, he is great and his vision of seas and oceans is wonderful! They are deep vast and majestic… He is a seascape painter and it means that most of his works were sea landscapes. What`s more, he was a representative of the Romantic Movement in Russian art that opened up to the world the new interest in human psychology and nature as well as the expression of personal feelings and emotions. 30 SUNRISE One more movement that I adore is Expressionism which main feature is vivid and shocking colours. Its representors distort colors, forms and proportions of the pictures to exaggerate the objects and give a new look of familiar things. To tell the truth, in some point it reminds me Surrealism of that appeared in the early 1920s when special attention was paid to the human psyche. The works of Z. Freud, C. Jung, V. Wundt described the amazing laws of consciousness, memory, thinking and influenced the minds. So, that movement arose under the discoveries of great scientists and their works. The artists sought to channel the unconscious as a means to unlock the power of imagination and break the traditions of a conservative art school. In general, I think it's a great gift to be able to draw not only the reality but also images and ideas that come across your mind and stir imagination. As you have already understood, I can't imagine my life without drawing and everything connected with it: pencils, paper and bright colorful paints. Drawing brings me a lot of satisfaction. For me it is the best way to relax and express my emotions. With the help of drawing I can share my vision of the world. Drawing is my passion! February 2019 №2
