Creativity for the Soul

youngest age group at the school of foreign
languages is constantly waiting for my
coming to them with pencils.
Is teaching them English connected with
creativity?
Learning English is originally a creative
process, and I often offer them tasks to draw
something on a subject. I try to find an
individual approach.
The cross-curriculum connections. You
know, one woman said to me recently: “Sasha,
you are not a businesswoman!” I don't really
like this word, but when I heard it, I asked why.
Her answer was that she wanted to sign up for
my classes, but all the time had been
constantly completely booked. It's true, but
that's nothing to do with. I want to work
individually with every person to give everyone
maximum attention. “You won't make money
like that!” But I don't really feel like making as
much money as possible, I want people to
come to me again and so that they could have
fun.
How many years have you been running
the studio?
It's been two years this fall. I thought
that we would celebrate, but the autumn was
not positive enough, and this idea wasn`t
realized. As for how it all began, so, when I
came back from Vladivostok, I met a woman
who was running her “Mother-Daughter” club,
and I was teaching the right-hemisphere
drawing classes there, plus, I also knew how to
do a manicure and to draw on clothes. It was
very popular at that time. I had my own office.
Then I started thinking of why I should be
working for someone if I can organize
everything myself. I had an art space together
with several people which was called “Cloud”
at first, and everyone was supposed to be
engaged in his own project, but then everyone
left, and I was left alone.

That is, if I've got things right, you have
no partner at the moment? Are you running
business all by yourself?
I would not say so. The thing is that I am
the person who loves with my eyes. When I was
looking for a room for my studio, I wanted it to
be a nice place. So that when I came there, I'd
feel good. I moved from place to place twice. I
had a large two-story space at first, which I
rented at a discount. In summer the landlord
told me to move out. Happily I came along with
the place where the “Kvartira” studio is now.
Actually, it was located in the neighborhood,
since that there was “Avto-Radio” at first.
Later they moved out and the room was
empty. They tried to rent it out within half a
year, but with no success. The owners
persuaded me to look around in there and, as
soon as I came inside, I felt immediately with
my soul that I was in the right place. After 10
minutes, I said “yes”. I had long dreamed of
having a red sofa in my studio. There was just a
space for having a rest, and I immediately
ordered it. Before, having finished to give the
classes, I used to run away back home, but
now I can be there all the time. For example, I
come in the morning even if I do not have any
work to do, and I'm listening to the music,
watching videos on YouTube. I didn't title it
"Kvartira" for nothing, after all. If there was a
shower in there, I would spend nights there as
well. (laugh)
