What would you prefer: to join the
magical world of Harry Potter or immerse
yourself in the world of famous fairy- tales and
books? Our students had a great opportunity
to enjoy all that at once, thanks to the annual
Acting Contest for English-speaking groups,
which took place during the week of foreign
languages.
This year the event was held on
November 29 and gathered the students of
the FFL (the Faculty of Foreign Languages)
and FPPE (the Faculty of Pedagogics and
Primary Education ). In general, there were 12
participating groups, and of course, our dear
teachers could not miss the opportunity to
show their skills to the audience. They
p re s e nte d a n ex t re m e l y a m u s i n g a n d
humorous scene about a modern teacher's
qualities. Of course, the performance evoked
a huge number of smiles and positive
emotions. It's also worth mentioning that this
year's theme was the backstage secrets and
our third-year students (301,302) helped us to
comprehend all the intricacies. And now, let's
have a closer look at the performances.
It`s great to say that the first-year
students show more and more of their talents
and skills, and the competition was not an
exception! Group 101 turned the fairy tale “The
Canterville Ghost” into reality, and group 102
presented a humorous play ”Red Riding Hood”.
Both groups shared 3rd place and showed
that they were completely ready to compete
with more experienced students. The award
“Best Fairy Tale” was given to group 104 for
”Witches vs Princesses”, and group 103 was
awarded as a group with “Best Language
Skills” for their “Death Takes the Train”. Here is
what the participants themselves say about
their first experience: “We enjoyed the
Contest very much, as it's the first time we`ve
participated in such an event. It wasn't easy to
choose the play, because we had lots of ideas,
but finally, with the help of our teachers, we

decided what to do. We distributed the
responsibilities and chose the roles very fast,
so there weren't any problems or quarrels”.
No one remained indifferent to the
variety of the performances staged by the
Second-year students. The spectators
managed to feel the magic thanks to “Harry
Potter” play by group 204 (Best Contemporary
Drama), and the students from 203 helped us
re c a l l t h e c a r to o n “ Ku z c o U n i ve r s i ty ”
(Sparkling Sense of Humor). German group 201
performed on the stage the “Remarkable
Rocket”, one of the most popular Oscar
Wilde's stories (Best Acting Skills), and French
group 202 presented a well-known fairy- tale
“Snow White and 7 dwarfs” ( the 2nd place).
One of the most memorable
performances was the one from French 302
group, which became the winner of this year.
Their play “The Nightingale and the Rose” was
notable not only for its excellent acting, but
also for its unusual decorations. In order to
help the spectators immerse in the
atmosphere of the play, the guys used live
roses and tree branches.
