Sunrise County Economic Council Annual Report 2025 | Page 3

A Note from Our Director
This year marked a period of challenge and progress for our county and Sunrise County Economic Council. Our focus remains on creating jobs and prosperity in Washington County. Amid the budget crisis and shifting policy and economic conditions, we worked to strengthen small businesses, support aspiring entrepreneurs, help parents reach their career and economic goals, promote the region, and assist towns and cities to secure the funds they need to improve the infrastructure we all rely on. We also partnered with citizen initiatives and the Passamaquoddy Tribe to restore critical natural resources, invest in the next generation, and help preserve the heritage of our shared home.
I want to thank the staff and volunteers who made the accomplishments outlined in this report possible. We are thankful for the local community groups, community leaders, and nonprofit organizations that have joined in this work and for the donors and foundations that invested in Washington County. In the past year, we have been reminded of the critical role that county government plays in our community, and we appreciate the ongoing economic development partnership we have with the county. We also appreciate our federal and state agency partners, and the resources they have directed to our communities in recent years.
Sunrise County Economic Council is one of the ways that Washington County invests in itself and works toward a more prosperous future. We were founded by community leaders more than thirty years ago, and our staff and volunteer board live and work here. This is our home, and we are proud and thankful to be able to do this work in a place we care so deeply about.
