The weekend is what most people look forward to after a long week of school or work ; It ’ s a great time to unwind , link up with friends , and forget about the responsibility of being a student or colleague for two whole days ! However , once Sunday rolls around , it is common for people to feel a wave of sadness , anxiety , and emptiness because that fun and excitement that is experienced during the weekend is finally coming to an end . Specialist Adele Cochrane shared in her article “ Sunday Night Blues : Why You Feel So Sad and How to Fix It ” that psychologists have analyzed Sunday Night Blues and concluded that this common occurrence that many experience can be classified as “ situational depression ”. More specifically , these “ blues ” are a reaction to a circumstance and go away once the situation has passed . In fact , Sunday Blues are more common than what people think , with a survey from Monster Poll demonstrating that around seventyeight percent of people have admitted to having suffered from this wave of sadness on Sundays . But what can people do in order for this percentage to go down ? First and foremost , in order to learn how to cope with the Sunday Night Blues , it is important to understand what might trigger them . Scientists and researchers who are working side by side with training . com . au , an online research website , cracked the code on why people tend to experience situational depression most commonly on Sunday evenings and afternoons . This unwelcomed wave of sadness and anxiety shows up when people become conscious that the weekend is slowly coming to an inevitable end . With this dreadful realization comes the final push of leftover tasks and chores , the dread of returning to the workload and pressure of school or work for the next five days , as well as time for reflection where many people tend to regret how they spent their time during the weekend or wishing they had accomplished something more . Luckily there are some remedies to cure or relieve some of the sadness that might make a visit the last few hours of the weekend . Right after finishing school or work try to organize your most important tasks first ; skim them through , complete those that can be quickly done , and write down the ones that need to be attended once Monday rolls around . List your accomplishments , try keeping a list of the accomplishments that you were able to achieve during the week . This will give some closure to the end of a heavy week instead of thinking about what needs to be done next . Make some plans or tasks for when you get in on Monday which will make it easier to dive into school . Saturday is the most important day to really work on the remedies in order to enjoy the Sunday that is usually dreaded . On Saturdays , people are in a naturally higher mood than on Sundays so this will make it much easier for people to get things done without feeling discouraged . On Saturdays try to make some fun plans for the next day as this will give something to look forward to as well . By trying to get most of the homework and chores out of the way on Saturdays there will be room to do fun things on Sundays . Once Sunday rolls around try to distract yourself and unplug from the stress of work or school by enjoying a hobby , seeing some family members or friends , as well as taking some time away from your device ; however , the best most recommended medicine is exercise ! Exercise naturally releases endorphins which reduce anxiety and depression , so why not go on a nice walk or run in a nearby park . It is important to really give time to oneself , take a step back from work or school during the weekends , and do fun things you might enjoy but not have time to do during the weekdays . Looking out for yourself is as important as any other activity , do not forget .
