Lighting up the sky on Fourth of July
Fireworks in Waconia on the Fourth of July is as American as hot dogs, apple pie, and baseball.
Reflecting over beautiful Lake Waconia each year is a spectacular fireworks display. The tradition, which has been going strong for nearly 40 years, allows Waconia to boast that it’ s one of only a few communities in the entire metro are that not only has a great fireworks display but also one that spectators can enjoy by boat or by land.
The credit for the show goes to Waconia Pyrotechnics. A core group of licensed pyrotechnics from the community give up their Fourth of July to fire off the show each year. It’ s an all-day process to load up this impressive show.
At dusk, the fireworks are shot up into the air to the delight of the crowds, which can number 10,000 to 15,000 people from Waconia and neighboring communities. People will line the shores of Lake Waconia to
see the fireworks, which are shot off in dramatic fashion over the lake from the Lake Waconia Regional Park. Many spectators watch the show from their boats, while others pick spots at Lake Waconia Regional Park, the In Towne Marina, Lola’ s Lakehouse, Island View Gold Course, along Main Street, and other favorite spots.
The fireworks are free to watch thanks to the hard work of the members of the Lake Waconia Fireworks committee, a 501c4 non-profit group that is administered by the Waconia Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber raises money through generous donations from the presenting sponsor, the Waconia Lions Club, along with the generosity of the Waconia business community, citizens at large, civic organizations, and the Chamber itself.
