Society’ s mission is to preserve history

Through its archives, exhibits and resources, Carver County history comes alive at the Carver County Historical Society, whose mission is“ To collect, preserve, and interpret the history of Carver County.”
The Carver County Historical Society is located at 555 West First Street in Waconia, across the street from Bayview Elementary School and a few blocks away from the Carver County Fairgrounds. You can’ t miss the building— it’ s the one with the tank sitting out front.
Established in 1940, the Carver County Historical Society is a private, not-for-profit organization whose museum was expanded in 1998 to better serve the public. The museum houses five local history exhibits, a veterans’ exhibit and a local history and genealogy library. There is no charge to visit the museum or library.
The Carver County Historical Society has all sorts of records and materials pertaining to Carver County, including a substantial online newspaper index. In addition to the museum and library, the Carver County Historical Society offers a variety of educational and enjoyable programming for children and adults.

WACONIA HERITAGE ASSOCIATION
Since its inception in 1983, the Waconia Heritage Association works to“ discover and memorialize the heritage and history of the area.” Visit city hall for a walking tour of Waconia brochure. The group meets from 1 to 3 p. m. on the first Wednesday of the month at city hall. To learn more, contact Mary Happ at( 952) 442-2570.
