A hot spot for premier fitness events

Lake Waconia and the surrounding areas are perfect places for outdoor activities— and the lake has quickly become a popular place to hold running and other fitness-oriented events.
In 2025, the annual Walk on Waconia and Lola’ s Lake Waconia Half Marathon combined to offer a 5K and 10-mile along the lake, also a kids’ race. Organizers say the change means more energy, more participants, and even greater support for Gather and Grow Food Shelf. Almost 1,400 runners had registered by last weekend with that number expected to hit 1,500 by race day.
“ Gather and Grow is excited and grateful to partner with Lola’ s Lake Waconia Half Marathon this year,” Gather and Grow Executive Director Angie Cruzen said.“ This incredible opportunity to share our mission with such a wide audience helps us take a meaningful step toward our goal: making hunger an acceptable topic of conversation and raising awareness about the needs in our community. We are also raising funds through this partnership to help us feed our neighbors who are experiencing hardship.”
It’ s also a way to bring the community together for the event. After crossing the finish line at City Square Park, participants and spectators are invited to head over to Lola’ s Lake House for post-race fun, food and live entertainment.
Also in May is the Don’ t Worry Be Hoppy 10K and 5K hosted by Waconia Brewing Company.
Later in the year, Waconia’ s annual Nickle Dickle Day celebration includes a 10K run, 5K run / walk, and a ½ mile Tickle Run for children.
