Life on lake offers chance to relax

Whether it’ s fishing, swimming, water skiing, windsurfing or just spending time at the beach, citizens who love being on or near the water are in luck in Waconia.
The main attraction, Lake Waconia, covers 2,996 acres with a maximum depth of 37 feet according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. For those who enjoy fishing, the lake features a diverse amount of fish, including walleye, perch, crappie, muskellunge, northern pike and five species of panfish.
For recreation activities, one of the best spots to spend time at the lake is Lake Waconia Regional Park, which is located just east of Waconia on Paradise Lane off of Highway 5. At more than 100 acres, Lake Waconia Regional Park has the room to offer a number of amenities that are sure to please everyone in your group.
The park, which is situated on the south shore of the lake, features terrific views of the lake and Coney Island. Groups, family reunions and other casual events can find a venue at the park’ s reservable group picnic
shelter that has seating for up to 80 people. Conveniently, the shelter provides electrical outlets, a grill and a water faucet. The park has a swimming beach, which is the only public swimming beach on the lake. The regional park is currently undergoing a re-envisioning process, with multiple upgrades having been finished and other still in the planning stages.
Boat access can be found at the Minnesota DNR boat access located on the northeast side of the lake off of CSAH 30 and at private marinas in Waconia. A daily or annual parking permit for Carver County Parks is required for all vehicles in the park.
The park is also home to a regional park services building, Paradise Commons, which is operated by Carver County.
In the wintertime, Lake Waconia Regional Park is used by many thrill seekers who visit the park’ s popular sledding hill. Known as Mt. Waconia, this hill is 80 feet high.
