Preserving history of the area

Through its archives , exhibits and resources , Carver County history comes alive at the Carver County Historical Society , whose mission is “ To collect , preserve , and interpret the history of Carver County .”
The Carver County Historical Society is located at 555 West First Street in Waconia , across the street from Bayview Elementary School and a few blocks away from the Carver County Fairgrounds . You can ’ t miss the building — it ’ s the one with the tank sitting out front .
Established in 1940 , the Carver County Historical Society is a private , not-for-profit organization whose museum was expanded in 1998 to better serve the public . The museum houses five local history exhibits , a veterans ’ exhibit and a local history and genealogy library . There is no charge to visit the museum or library .
The Carver County Historical Society has all sorts of records and materials pertaining to Carver County , including a substantial online newspaper index . In addition to the museum and library , the Carver County Historical Society offers a variety of educational and enjoyable programming for children and adults .

WACONIA HERITAGE ASSOCIATION
Since its inception in 1983 , the Waconia Heritage Association works to “ discover and memorialize the heritage and history of the area .” Visit city hall for a walking tour of Waconia brochure .
