Educational variety available to families
Since opening in 2008, Cologne Academy has a well-established track record for success. Cologne Academy, a kindergarten – eighth grade public charter school, has been recognized repeatedly as one of the top-performing public schools in Minnesota. It has been named a 2015 and 2016‘ Reward School’ by the Minnesota Department of Education which states it is in the top 15 percent of Minnesota public schools demonstrating exceptional student outcomes and have had success in closing the achievement gap.
Cologne Academy, a tuition free public school, currently serves over 600 students. All employees at Cologne Academy are at-will employees, teachers are licensed by the state of Minnesota and are reviewed annually. All students are assessed on a regular basis to ensure learning according to their individual trajectory. As a Minnesota public school, Cologne Academy teaches Minnesota state standards, and enriches the academic experience by embedding the Core Knowledge Sequence curriculum on top of the state’ s standards. PAROCHIAL SCHOOLS
Local residents seeking alternatives to public education can choose from several parochial elementary schools and two parochial high schools that serve NYA and its surrounding area.
St. John’ s Lutheran School in NYA serves preschool-8th grade students. The school also has a boys’ and girls’ athletic program. Contact the school at 952-467-3461.
Emanuel Lutheran School in Hamburg also provides classes for preschool-8th grade students. The school also has an updated activities / athletic center for boys’ and girls’ sports. Contact: 952-467-2780.
Zion Lutheran School serves preschool-8th grade children from NYA, Cologne and Benton Township. Contact: 952-466- 3379.
Mayer Lutheran School is located about 10 miles north of NYA. The school provides education for students in grades 6-12. Mayer Lutheran School also has a full athletic program for both boys and girls. Contact: 952657-2251.
