Central makes education central
Central Public Schools, serving the communities of Norwood Young America, Cologne, Hamburg, Bongards, and the surrounding rural areas, is proud to have the opportunities to educate future leaders. The district continues to be one of the highest performing districts in the area and the state as a whole. Each of the three schools has been recognized, either on the state or national / international level with awards for academic excellence.
Central Elementary boasts four consecutive years of recognition by the Minnesota Department of Education, garnering“ Celebration Eligible” status in 2012, 2013 and 2015 and being named a“ Reward School” in 2014. The Middle School was named a“ Reward School” in 2013 in their only year of eligibility for this award through the state. Central High School was named to the“ Advanced Placement Honor Roll” in 2014 and 2015 for excellence in achievement in upper level courses. It was one of 10 high schools in Minnesota to receive this honor and one of approximately 550 schools across the United States and Canada to be selected. The high school also received a Bronze Award as one of the Top High Schools in the nation from US News and World Report in 2015.
Currently, the schools serve approximately 1,000 students in grades K-12. With advanced placement courses, a welltrained and motivated staff and a commitment to constantly improve students’ educational experience, Central Schools provide a solid base of knowledge and teach the skills needed in today’ s world.

COMMUNITY EDUCATION, PRESCHOOL AND KID CARE
With the core belief that education is a lifelong process, the district also offers an extensive community education program with a variety of classes for children and adults alike.
From swimming lessons to weekly music in the park events, community education provides entertainment options as well as educational opportunities.
For more information, contact the community education office at 952-467-7390. Central Schools also offer several preschool programs, like Kurious Kids, for children ages 3 to pre-kindergarten. After school child care is available for elementary school-age students. It is open at the elementary school until 6 p. m.
