4 . Signposting : This initiative aims to provide schools and colleges with an efficient and streamlined pathway to engage in higher education outreach . It enables schools and colleges to participate in virtual activities and offers ongoing professional development ( CPD ) opportunities for staff .
THE SOUTHERN UNIVERSITIES NETWORK ( SUN )
The SUN is a Uni Connect partnership comprising six Higher Education Institutions ( HEIs ) –, Arts University Bournemouth , Bournemouth University , Southampton Solent University , University of Portsmouth , University of Southampton , and University of Winchester .
A key criterion of Uni Connect is to ensure that partnership activity should be new or designed to enhance existing activity and should avoid duplicating outreach activity delivered by individual HEPs . For this reason , the SUN will lead and fund outreach activities focussing on transition , retention , and attainment . The SUN offers target students a wide range of activities and will fund projects , that meet the aims of Uni Connect . All activity for Phase 3 will be evaluated at an appropriate level depending on the intensity of activity , project cost , and if a project or activity is an area of emerging interest .
The partnership will engage key stakeholders such as teachers and senior leadership in schools and colleges , parents / carers , and local authorities to discover the regional barriers to HE and how HEPs can provide relevant support and interventions to increase participation .
