Assignment Summaries (Collaborative) 1691 – HR Organisation Comparative Study The University of the West of England had already carried out some benchmarking of HR which had raised several interesting questions. Building on this, working with UWE and the University of Hertfordshire as lead institutions, SUMS undertook a collaborative benchmarking study seeking further insight into sustainable HR models that would support the delivery of institutional strategy in the future. Quantitative sector benchmarking, insights into other sectors’ developments and assessment against an HR maturity model provided the insight sought on the most effective way to configure HR for the future. 1763 - Freedom of Speech To inform the revision of the UCL Freedom of Speech Code of Practice, SUMS was asked to review the Codes relating to Freedom of Speech/Expression and make comparison to those of other institutions and provide them with a good practice framework. In response to interest in this area, we extended the work to a SUMS collaborative study. We drew upon the work already undertaken within UCL and explored contextual issues. We identified examples of good practice, drawing upon elements of the work of the Universities of Surrey, Manchester, Leeds, Southampton, Birmingham, Leicester and Queen Mary, University of London. The good practice framework was shared with all SUMS Members. Activities www.sums.org.uk 65
