WDALA MEMBERS ATTEND NALA'S 40TH ANNIVERSARY CONVENTION

I had the opportunity to attend my first NALA convention this summer. WDALA sponsored my trip and I participated in the Essential Skills training. I met people from all over the country who were studying to take the CP exam.

The Essential Skills training prepared me for the national test and gave me a sense of what to expect in testing to become a certified paralegal. In addition to those studying to take the test for the first time, we also had attendees who had already been certified but wanted to brush up on their skills. Virginia Koerselman Newman was our lecturer. She had a wealth of knowledge to share and was very clear and professional in her speaking. We covered categories of legal research, judgment, legal analysis and written communication in depth to prepare for the exam.

This was my first experience with both WDALA and NALA but everyone from North Dakota made it a point to make me feel welcome and include me in any plans they made.

The first night I had a late flight so I missed the early bird reception, but met most of the members of our association at our opening reception. After the reception, I was invited to join the group for dinner at a restaurant where they had made reservations for everyone. The second night of the convention, the association had planned an Art Deco tour for all attendees. This was a fantastic way to meet people in greater depth and gain an appreciation and knowledge for Tulsa’s architectural history.
