SUMMER 2021 Italian American Digest

With the gradual loosening of social distancing requirements , the Sons of Italy Heritage Club of Shreveport-Bossier has enjoyed gathering together again to break bread . Meeting on the second Tuesday each month , the Club continues to enjoy the hospitality and delicious food served by member Ernest Palmisano at Ernest ’ s Orleans Restaurant . As a part of the March meeting , long-time former club president and wife , Johnnie and Sue Estess , prepared a magnificent St . Joseph ’ s altar . An ornate statue of the patron saint and Holy Family centered the altar , which also included smaller statuary , candles , fruits and the traditional breads and delicacies .
In April , the club enjoyed an afternoon Festa Italiano , gathering in the courtyard of C & L Supply . Highlighting the menu was a delectable lasagna prepared from a family recipe by Ernest ’ s Orleans , along with a hearty

The Sons of Italy Heritage Club of Shreveport-Bossier was founded almost 40 years ago by local citizens of Italian heritage whose grandparents were members of the Italia Moderna Society , a benevolent organization of Italian ( mostly Sicilian ) immigrants that dates back to 1906 . The Sons of Italy Heritage Club continues that dedication to preserve the culture , traditions and language of Italy for future generations . The Club meets the second Tuesday of each month , with the exception of December , at Ernest ’ s Orleans Restaurant in Shreveport , LA .
