The fashion at Royal Ascot is as famous as the festival itself. While many a celebrity will be snapped in their fabulous outfits, the general public can take equal billing here – if you have an equally stunning outfit. But take care – the rules of the Dress Code are almost as famous as the fashion and any infringement may see you refused entry to certain enclosures or areas of the racecourse.
Ladies: most famous of the rules are the requirement for a hat or substantial fascinator( with a base of more than 10cm diameter), a knee-length hemline and shoulder straps of an inch wide or more.
Men are expected to wear top hats and black or grey morning dress, but avoid cravats. Matching suits with shirt and tie can be worn in areas other than the Royal Enclosure.
