In the third station , we made our own DIY chocolate . After choosing the design and flavor you add decorations to it . There was even a fountain for every flavor option so you can choose your favorite one . After you get your chocolate , you add in your decorations and give it back for hardening . The decorations ranged from small pieces of different flavor chocolates to the spices and seasonings we had smelled earlier .
In the next section we had 2 rooms full of Zotter ’ s best chocolates . We could pull the lever to release a new piece of chocolate . We would taste test it then move on to the next . My favorite was the strawberry infused chocolate and the 70 % dark chocolate . I tasted like 30 different types of chocolates combined .
After the taste testing of Zotter ’ s selling chocolates , we didn ’ t just eat . We even drank chocolate . We drank hot cocoa made with many types of chocolates . The vanilla milk was also really good . If you walk to the end of the room , there is another taste testing area ! This time it was mostly chocolate covered nuts , or chocolate nibs . They had the most unique combinations which actually tasted surprisingly good .
We went down stairs for the final taste testing round . On a sushi style conveyor belt were Zotter ’ s complicated multi flavored chocolates . The names were each too long to remember but there were more than 3 flavors in each bar and we got to taste test every single one of them ! They had really unique tastes and textures and many had cream sandwiched in between them or had some seasoning sprinkled on .
Before we departed the chocolate factory , we spent some time shopping for our favorite chocolates . Not to mention the fact that throughout the whole tour , we walked around the real chocolate producing factory where they make the chocolates they sell at the gift shop . People knew what to buy since they knew the name of the chocolates they wanted after tasting a lot of them .
Going to the cooking field trip is always something I look forward to every year . Although I feel a kilogram heavier , it is not everyday you get to experience the making of chocolate and its variations . My all-time favorite is the 70 % dark chocolate . Its not too sweet but not to bitter – the perfect balance . A lot of my friends argued that dark chocolate is disgusting and that milk chocolate tastes better . But that ’ s what the trip was for . Discovering new flavors of chocolates . I cant wait for next year ’ s field trip !
