When I learned that there was a Berlin Wall exhibit at the Newseum I was intrigued on how they would handle the topic. The existence of the Berlin Wall is still easily recalled from memory in the living generations, and those who are too young to have actual memories are taught of its significance. The Berlin Wall has turned into a representation of a battle between ideologies and its fall holds significance for those on both sides of the battle. Each side views it in a completely different light, one as the victory of capitalism and the other as the failings of a Soviet leader. I am interested to see how they portray the wall since most western exhibits show it as an evil and horrible barrier. I wonder if due to their access to media from the time, from both sides will provide a more objective view of the wall.
The exhibit, like all of the ones at the newseum, was extremely interactive. It attempted, and I think succeeded, at breaking the barrier of viewing and participating. Though it was not nearly as interactive as some of the other exhibits, there still was an encouragement to interact with the exhibit.
