Summer Guide 2020 | Page 26

s t ea Already had your fill of typical New England summer fare? Then make your way over to one of these first-rate imports. ASIAN-INSPIRED FOR CHINESE: Providence may not be home to an iteration of Chinatown, but don’t fret; we still have plenty of joints that can satiate your late-night cravings. Stop by Wong’s Kitchen in Providence for a hearty portion of General Tso’s (note: they have spectacular Vietnamese options, too), Boru Noodle Bar in Newport for some spicy miso ramen or Chengdu Taste in Pawtucket for some rice-wrapped shrimp dumplings. FOR JAPANESE: Rhode Island is known as the Ocean State, so hopefully this gives us a little more authority when it comes to sushi. We’re partial to Providence-based Nami’s Tuxedo and Passion rolls, Westerly-based Ju Sushi’s Lion King roll, Narragansett-based Kabuki’s Dynamite and American Dream rolls and Providence-based Jacky’s Waterplace and Sushi Bar’s Northeastern Tiger and Godzilla rolls. If you’re in the mood for other Japanese specialties, check out Wara Wara in Providence for some yakitori (grilled meats) tapas, or Ebisu, also in Providence, for some shabu shabu (thinly sliced meat and seafood in broth). 24    YOUR ULTIMATE SUMMER GUIDE 2020 FOR KOREAN: All located in Providence, DenDen Cafe Asiana offers hot-stone bibimbap and seafood pancakes while Mokban boasts KFC (Korean-fried-chicken) wings and kimchi stew and Hometown Cafe and Poke Bar has a killer Korean Kick poke bowl. FOR INDIAN: The house specialty at India in Providence is the chicken tikka masala, but if you’re feeling more adventurous, go for the more flavorful biryani. Rasa in East Greenwich will have you drooling over its Hyderabadi chicken korma with cashew paste and garam masala. FOR THAI: Vatsana Thai and Sushi in Cranston is not for the faint of heart, gearing its dishes towards those who appreciate all things spice (though it does offer some mild-yet-delicious pad Thai, too!). If you think your palate can take the heat, seek out the hot basil dish. Mean- while, Tong D (which has brick and mortar locations in both South Kingstown and Barrington) serves up an impressive garlic choy wok with your choice of rice. l a b o l g Shrimp bibimbap from DenDen Cafe Asiana in Providence.
