SEAFOOD staples
Summer in the Ocean State isn’t complete until you’ve consumed these dishes.

CLAM CAKES +
CHOWDER
Pronounced clam cakes and “chowdah,” this classic combo
appears on many local menus — but these spots do it best.
Some swear
that clam cakes
and white (New
England) chowder are
soulmates, but don’t be
afraid to try the clear
(Rhode Island)
style, too!
IGGY’S DOUGHBOYS AND CHOWDER HOUSE
Some locals won’t call it summer until they’ve hit Iggy’s
for chowder and clam cakes (with fluffy doughboys doused
in sugar for dessert!). Plus, no matter which location you
visit, you’re in for some spectacular ocean views. Warwick
and Narragansett
ROCKY POINT CLAM SHACK
This iconic institution serves up crispy-soft clam cakes
and savory chowder along with a healthy dose of nostalgia.
Rocky Point was Rhode Island’s theme park from 1840 to
1996 and the eponymous clam shack will transport you
back in time with its original recipes. Warwick
BLOUNT CLAM SHACK
Whether you order the red chowder, white chowder or
clambake chowder, Blount Clam Shack is a favorite when
it comes to any and all clam cake pairings. Each of Blount’s
water-adjacent locations also offers a number of delicious
gourmet soups and bisques that are summer must-haves.

AUNT CARRIE’S
Celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, Aunt Carrie’s
has been specializing in seafood since its inception in
1920 — way back when Aunt Carrie still ran the place!
Nowadays, her descendants carry on the tradition of
cooking and serving some of the best clam cakes and
chowder (made from Carrie’s original corn fritter recipe)
combos in the state, all within walking distance of Scar-
borough State Beach. Narragansett
EVELYN’S DRIVE-IN
Featured on Food Network’s “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives,”
Evelyn’s is a quintessential Rhode Island clam shack.
Located on Nanaquaket Pond, diners come by land and
by sea to savor the chowder and clam cake combos and
soak up the sights. Tiverton
FLO’S CLAM SHACK
Whether you visit the dine-in establishment or the drive-
in, you can’t go wrong with Flo’s. The company has been
around since 1936 (surviving multiple hurricanes, mind
you) and its menus boast world-famous clams, fresh
house specialties and more (think ice cold beer at the
restaurant and flavor-burst soft serve at the take-out
window). Middletown and Portsmouth

DUNE BROTHER’S SEAFOOD
A city-based seafood shack might sound odd, but hear us
out. Housed in Providence’s Innovation and Design District,
Dune Brother’s Seafood is certainly bringing creativity to the
capital city with its charming walk-up window and its cloudy
New England chowder recipe, which uses fresh littlenecks
and hand-cut potatoes. Providence
