Property Maintenance ... Be a Good Neighbor

Yard Waste Collection Tips City crews will pick up yard waste that is placed in storebrand kraft paper bags if a City of Lake Forest yard waste sticker has been placed on the bag . The stickers need to be placed on each bag to be collected at the curb by 7 a . m . on your collection day . Stickers are $ 1 ( sold in sheets of five ) and can be purchased at Sunset Foods , Jewel , Pasquesi Home and Gardens , Lake Forest Hardware , The Fresh Market , City Hall , and the Municipal Services Center . There cannot be any contaminants such as planter containers , dirt , sod or refuse material mixed with the yard waste material .
Reminder : City crews will pick up bundles of brush if a City of Lake Forest yard waste sticker has been affixed to each bundle of brush placed at the curb by 7 a . m . on your collection day . There is no limit to the number of bundles permitted on each collection day . Each branch in the bundle should not exceed six inches in diameter or four feet in length . Multiple branches must be tied in bundles with string or twine . Each bundle should not exceed four feet in length or two feet in width .
For removal of larger amounts of unbundled brush , please contact the Forestry Section at 847.810.3564 . There is a fee associated with the collection of unbundled brush or for tree limbs larger than six inches in diameter .

Please remember that City Code requires all properties be maintained whether or not the property is occupied . A property can be declared a nuisance if the following conditions exist :
Overgrown or obnoxious vegetation : o Trees or other vegetation which causes a hazardous condition to neighbors , pedestrians or vehicles . o Grass or weeds more than 8 ” high . Exceptions are native grasses in designated natural areas , open lands , wetlands and on golf courses .
Distressed Buildings including : o Unsecured , damaged or dangerous buildings . o Vacant buildings and properties at which one or more Code violations exist .
When a nuisance is identified , a Courtesy Notice is sent to the property owner of record . If the nuisance is not abated within the specified time period , a Violation Notice is sent and fines begin to accrue . If the nuisance is still not abated , the City is authorized to arrange for the work to be completed and the full cost of the work , including all administrative and legal costs , is assessed to the property owner . In other cases , a ticket may be issued and the matter may be brought before the City ’ s Administrative Hearing ’ s Officer .
