SKILL BUILDING, FUN AND FITNESS
Swimming is a lifelong skill that can open the door to many adventures. At the Weinstein JCC and Camp Hilbert pools, safety always comes first, along with a friendly and nurturing environment. Our expanded instructional swim program gives every child the opportunity to build swimming skills for a lifetime, led by our American Red Cross Lifeguard certified team.
Swim Bands: A Guide to our Color-Coded Wristbands
At Camp Hilbert and Specialty Camps, we use a swim band system to ensure every camper’ s safety and enjoyment in the pool. After completing a swim assessment, campers will receive a color-coded wristband that determines their swimming area access during free swim and instructional swim periods. Here’ s how it works!
The Swim Assessment- Each camper completes a swim assessment to determine their comfort and ability in the water. The assessment includes:
• Safely sliding into the pool.
• Swimming on their front for 15 yards.
• A 30-second back float.
• Returning to a front position and swimming 15 yards back to the starting point.
Instructional Swim Periods- During morning instructional swim at Camp Hilbert, campers are grouped by their wristband color.
GREEN WRISTBAND
All Pool Access
• Granted to swimmers who complete the assessment independently without stopping or touching the pool floor.
ORANGE WRISTBAND
Intermediate Depth Access
• Granted to swimmers who complete the assessment independently but may need improvement in stamina, safety, or technique.
PURPLE WRISTBAND
Shallow Depth / Splash Pad Access
• Granted to campers who cannot yet swim independently, show fear or hesitation, or can complete only parts of the assessment with assistance.
Dolphin Club / Rockville Summer Swim Team
The Dolphin Club( ages 5-12) and the Rockville Racers compete together in the Greater Richmond Aquatics League( GRAL). The summer swim season will start in mid-May and run until the end of July. Summer swim team is a great way for your child to improve their swimming skills while introducing them to the world of competitive swim in a fun, relaxed atmosphere. Our focus is on team building, learning, and most of all – fun!
If your child is signed up for Camp Hilbert, practice will be provided during instructional swim time throughout the week. Children who are able to swim a minimum of 25 yards of legal backstroke or freestyle are invited to join us. Transportation is not provided to swim meets. For more information, contact Bridget Burkot at bburkot @ weinsteinjcc. org
Free Swim Fun- In the afternoons, campers can explore and enjoy their designated areas based on their wristband color, with trained lifeguards closely monitoring for safety.
This system helps us ensure every camper has fun while staying safe and building their swimming skills throughout the summer!
