COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARDS

COURTNEY PRESTHUS
Courtney Presthus is a North Dakota native and a graduate of the University of North Dakota School of Law. She is also a graduate of the International Association of Defense Counsel Trial Academy, held at the Stanford University School of Law.
Outside of her practice at Ebeltoft Sickler Lawyers, Presthus puts an emphasis on community leadership. She currently serves as a board member on the Sanford Bismarck Board of Directors, is the chair
Courtney Presthus was presented with her award by SBAND President Rob Manly. for the Sanford Bismarck Experience Committee, and chairs the Stark County Park Board. Previously, she has also served as a board member on the Stark County Fair Association, the Domestic Violence and Rape Crisis Center, Dickinson State University Rodeo Council, SBAND Lawyer Assistance Program, and SBAND CLE Commission. She also acts as a guardian ad litem and is a voice in the courtroom for young children who have experienced trauma.
HONORABLE NICHOLAS D. THORNTON
Judge Thornton has tirelessly and humbly given back to the community during his career. In addition to serving on court committees, he speaks in elementary and high schools about court-related matters and invites classes to attend court proceedings to get young people interested in legal careers.
Thornton also engages in general community service projects like cleaning ditches and roadsides and packing meals at events such as the Kiwanis Against Hunger Initiative. He also spends hundreds of hours coaching, including 4-6th grade youth football, 4-6th grade youth wrestling, and serves as a volunteer assistant with Valley City’ s varsity wrestling program. He also coaches Valley City’ s Freestyle / Greco wrestling program.
