What is your current position ? Dean and Professor of Law at UND
What is your hometown , college attended , and law school attended ? I graduated from high school in St . Joseph , Mich ., after growing up mostly in metro Detroit . I went to the University of Michigan for college and then attended Wayne State University for my J . D ., and the University of Missouri for an LL . M .
What professional work did you do before law school ? I held a variety of roles during and after college . I worked in community economic development in Benton Harbor , Mich ., and I worked in financial planning for Northwestern Mutual Life . I even spent a summer as a marketing intern at Whirlpool Corporation .
What led you to a career in law ? My Uncle Ed is a lawyer – this year is his 50th year with the same firm . His passion for his work and his example of service to the bar both helped me decide to go to law school .
How long have you been on the SBAND Board ? One year
What other involvement have you had with SBAND prior to being on the board ? As I hold the dean ’ s board position , this is where my involvement started . I did offer a three-part mindfulness CLE series for SBAND lawyers last year and I hope to offer training for mediators in the next year .
What is your favorite quote ? I have so many . “ Tell me and I forget . Teach me and I remember . Involve me and I learn .” – Benjamin Franklin .
What is the last book you read ( good or bad )? The Farmer ’ s Lawyer by Sarah Vogel - an excellent book !
