Quiz Bowl
A ) Time : Preliminaries & Finals - Monday , July 10 at 2 p . m .
B ) Divisions : Junior ( 5-13 years of age ), Senior ( 14-21 years of age )
C ) Registration : A team consists of three or four individuals . Teams are registered by their state advisors at the state officer and advisor meeting at 1:00 pm Sunday , July 9 .
D ) Rules : 1 . The quiz bowl will be a single elimination tournament , with the first-round pairings and byes drawn at random . Questions will cover the beef cattle industry in general and the Limousin breed specifically . 2 . Each preliminary round will include 5 toss-up questions , each worth 10 points . Any contestant on either team may answer a toss-up question . But the contestant first must press the buzzer and gain recognition from the quizmaster . The final round will include 10 toss-up questions , each worth 10 points . 3 . The quizmaster reads a toss-up question until the question is completed or a contestant buzzes in . 4 . If a contestant buzzes in while the quizmaster is reading , the quizmaster stops immediately , and the contestant must begin an answer within five seconds . ( Contestants should remember some toss-up questions will have more than one part so buzzing in early can hurt the team ’ s score ). 5 . If the first responding contestant ’ s answer is correct , that team receives 10 points and gets a chance at a bonus question . On the bonus question , the teammates may confer for 10 seconds before the team captain gives the quizmaster their answer . Each bonus question is worth 10 points . 6 . If the first responding contestant ’ s answer is incorrect , the quizmaster will repeat the toss-up question for the other team . An individual on the other team must buzz in before answering the question . The other team cannot confer on the toss-up question . 7 . If neither team answers a toss-up question correctly , the quizmaster goes to the next toss-up question . 8 . After the 5th toss-up question , a team will get a 25-point bonus if all four team members answered a question correctly during that round . 9 . The top two teams in each division after the preliminary round will advance to the finals .
Showmanship Contest
A ) Time : Monday , July 10 at 8 a . m
B ) Registration : All contestants must pre-register by May 15 using the online entry system . If not pre-registered , late entries will be accepted at check-in for a fee of $ 20 ( fee is per exhibitor not per event ).
C ) Divisions : Novice , Junior , Intermediate and Senior as described under Individual Sweepstakes Points . Classes will be split after check-in and will be posted .
D ) Rules : 1 . Exhibitors must show their own animals . Animals shown in Showmanship must be entered in the show . 2 . First round heats will be sorted by age division and randomized . Class breaks will be posted by Sunday evening . Secondary heats may be used at the judge ’ s discretion . Ten finalists will compete for champion showman in each division . 3 . The top 10 finalists will be placed from each division . 4 . The ring MAY be split for showmanship at the discretion of the NALJA board and advisor based on the number of participants . Seniors will show first followed by intermediate , junior and novice . 5 . Immediately following the selection of Novice showman , a mandatory meeting will be held with the Top 10 Senior Finalists to discuss rules and answer questions . At the conclusion of the meeting , finalists will have 30 minutes to set up . Seniors will have 30 minutes to fit their own animals , which are not to be altered prior to the contest . Animals are subject to a comb / towel test before fitting . After fitting the animals , the contestants will show them . 6 . Individuals who have won a division are no longer eligible to compete in that division . Past novice , junior and intermediate showmanship winners must advance to an older division . 7 . Exhibitors must wear the official show shirt and official showmanship number during the contest . 8 . Any substitution of deviation will be at the discretion of the NALJA board and its advisors .
State Poster Contest
A ) Time : Each state must deliver its entry to the checkin table by the end of check-in on Sunday , July 9 . States without members attending the show may submit their entries to the NALF office no later than June 1 . NALJA will display the boards throughout the NJLSC .
B ) Divisions : All states will compete in the same division .
C ) Rules : 1 . The tri-fold display must be 36 inches tall , have a 24 inch center and 12 inch flaps on each side . 2 . Each display should promote or highlight the state ’ s junior association and programs . The display should fit the theme of the current NJLSC , “ Limi ’ s Rally to
