Jim Kennedy :
Celebrating 50 years of doing the right thing
We say “ Do the right thing ” a lot here at Cox , but what does that really mean ? While it may mean different things to different people , we all somehow have a clear understanding of how this is defined at Cox .
It ’ s seen in the way we work with each other , the decisions we make and the examples set by our leaders . If you had to narrow it down to one person who sets this tone , it would be our Chairman Emeritus Jim Kennedy . While the importance of doing the right thing may have begun in 1898 with his grandfather , our founder Gov . James M . Cox , Jim has led by example for the past 50 years . Today , he continues to do the right thing as a leader of the company and chairman of the James M . Cox Foundation .
“ Jim has been a role model of strength and leadership for me and for so many of you . He ’ s been that way for our family , for our company , and he is an icon in our community .”
Alex Taylor , chairman and CEO

Has Jim accomplished great things in his life ? Yes . Has he maintained dedication to his values and those of James M . Cox ? Definitely . Have his decisions benefited people at Cox and the communities where we do business ? Certainly . Is he cringing at these words written about him right now ? Absolutely .
But Jim is an important part of the Cox story . He ’ s spent most of his life working , building and leading Cox to ensure the company continues for future generations . It hasn ’ t always been easy — late nights and early mornings are part of the job — but no one can argue with the results . Everyone reading this is benefiting from decisions Jim and many others have made .
