Performance and International Relations . Looking back on it now , I can see how my foundation was rooted at Saint David ’ s . As I got older , my musical interests and creativity brought me to the bassoon . The deep , mellow tone of it spoke to me . I found it enriching and I did various auditions for colleges and universities . I knew that even though I loved music I didn ’ t want to go to a music conservatory ; but rather , I wanted to continue a well-balanced education , and I found that I was able to achieve that balance at Carnegie Mellon . In spring of 2020 , my senior year was cut short due to the pandemic . I completed my undergraduate degree the following fall and graduated in December 2020 . It was at this time that I was able to reflect on what I was truly passionate about , and Saint David ’ s offered an opportunity ( Athletics Monitor position ) and transition that couldn ’ t have been better for me .
Tell us a bit about what the pandemic was like as a college student . To have your senior year interrupted , and then months later to be instructing young students who were facing similar obstacles , how did that impact your teaching ?
To see how our own boys have dealt with the complexities of the pandemic has been inspiring , to say the least . For example , one recent example that comes to mind is when a boy had to go home due to Covid protocols , you could see his energy bounce right back when he was cleared to return . So resilient . The way they all had to wear masks , and how strict we had to be with it . From my own semester as a senior college student to teaching the youngest ages , I had empathy for their experience .
