designs they employ, and the method of manufacture they employ?

In asking these questions one engages with the source material and the maker. Equally, when considering these four things, one discovers a way into reinterpreting the piece. Perhaps you keep a design motif, but utilize a different material to make the piece. Or perhaps, you use the original material but adapt the design. Finally, when you bring the final design to life and into the marketplace, tell the story of the original, credit the maker, motif, method, and material. If you credit your source and explain what moved you about it, the piece will come alive as it has a story to tell.
