ALAMEDA COUNTY ’ S CHERRYLAND COMMUNITY CENTER : A COLLABORATIVE ENDEAVOR COMES TO FRUITION
Awarded LEED Gold Certification on April 27 , 2021 , the nearly $ 24 Million Cherryland Community Center incorporates Alameda County ’ s most forward-thinking inclusion , equity and sustainable construction goals . Located across the street from Meek Park in the Ashland community of Alameda County , the 17,500 square foot facility includes a pre-kindergarten children ’ s room , a reading / computer room and satellite library , three multi-purpose rooms , and a 250-person community room with a full catering kitchen . An adjacent courtyard accommodates up to 200 people and a new crosswalk and attached parking lot provide safe access to the Center .
A decade of planning preceded the Cherryland Community Center ’ s April 2018 groundbreaking ceremony , but the Project suffered considerable setbacks when its original prime contractor defaulted , redesigns had to be implemented , and the COVID-19 pandemic hit .
