ORANGE CRUSH
The Orange Crush has its roots in the
beach cities of Maryland’s Eastern
Shore, but has traveled inland to
become a Baltimore mainstay. Recipes
vary, but the general formula includes
orange juice, orange vodka, triple
sec and lemon-lime soda. A simple,
refreshing drink that’s perfectly suited
for summer.

BLACK-EYED SUSAN
The official cocktail of the Preakness
Stakes, named for the Maryland state
flower, this drink has many variations.
Different recipes call for everything
from peach schnapps to sour mix, but
generally, the drink includes vodka, rum,
triple sec, and orange and pineapple
juice. Occasionally, a bit of rye whiskey
or bourbon is tossed in there. Cheers!

LOCAL BEER
Baltimore is a hub of local breweries,
from Union Craft Brewing to Heavy
Seas Beer. Many a great variation
can be found both in the brewery
tasting rooms and on the shelves of
local beer sellers — but our favorites
are the seasonal or limited-edition
specialties that really get to the
heart of Maryland. In recent years,
Monument City Brewery has teamed
up with Goetze’s Candy to make a
Bulls-Eye Caramel Cream Milk Stout
and Checkerspot Brewing created its
Keeper Stout Nitro, a beer fortified
with crab shells from J.M. Clayton
Seafood Company in Cambridge. Plus,
there have been beers inspired by
Baltimore native Edgar Allan Poe and
by local pastime duckpin bowling. Now
that’s hometown pride.
