(JDB & Sons Construction, Inc. continued)

CT: Describe JDB & Sons Construction, Inc.’s recent experience in working with the Port of SF using the Contractor Development Program (CDP)?

MC: JDB has completed two projects as a Prime Contractor for the Port of San Francisco and we utilized the Contractor Development Program to assist with obtaining the contract bonds on both projects. One project involved demolition and concrete work in Fisherman’s Wharf, which provides its own headaches trying to work in such a high-profile location. The other project was constructing a storage shed for Port maintenance staff at Pier 50. We also used the CDP on both projects to help with background administrative items, such as preparing escrow bid documents, site-specific health and safety plans, dust control plans, etc. These two projects served as some of the first projects JDB performed as a general contractor and were key in JDB establishing business relationships with a surety broker through the CDP. The CDP staff recommended a broker that they thought would suit our needs and we’re still with them today.

CT: What other San Francisco/Bay Area projects have you been working on since that you are particularly proud of?

MC: One of my personal favorites is our work at Larsen Park, off 19th Avenue, in San Francisco’s Sunset District. We were contracted to remove and replace the existing playground, including the area once known as “Jet Plane Park.” We installed a brand-new playground including a new “airplane” and it’s now a truly beautiful park where families bring their children for picnics and to enjoy the playground. It’s a pleasure to see community residents and visitors enjoy the benefit of the work we’ve completed. We recently started our portion of work on the Westside Recycled Water Treatment Facility for the San Francisco PUC. It’s the largest project we’ve been involved in and just being there is proving to be educational and informative.

Another project that comes to mind that was particularly satisfying is Burton High School Modernization, where we removed and replaced all the concrete and asphalt pavement on the school campus. It’s a beautiful high school and we’re proud to have been a part of its successful modernization.

CT: With all this growth, have you had to hire on more people?
