(Bridgetown Construction, Inc. continued)

Bridgetown Construction is certified as an Alameda County Small, Local Emerging Business (SLEB). While not currently part of a union, Raymond has participated in strategy sessions with MWIS and the CBAP providing input on union labor agreements which would impact small businesses as part of the A-1 Housing Project, and he has not ruled out becoming a union contractor at some point. “I share many of the same principles that unions have,” notes Raymond, pointing out how important it is for local developers and housing providers to utilize local businesses and local workers in projects that are funded by the taxpayers.

One of his company’s core values is finding ways to help economically empower other community members, particularly youth. “I see a lot of opportunities for growing my company while creating jobs within the City,” shares Raymond, “I would like to be involved in training programs for high school students, specifically helping them to learn the trades.” Raymond also feels drawn to help address the County’s need for affordable housing. In partnership with Hello Housing, an affordable housing agency and subsidiary of MidPen Housing, Bridgetown Construction recently completed a renovation of four duplexes, with the goal of making them adaptable for people who had previously been living in long-term medical facilities. “It’s very fulfilling to be part of developing housing and thereby increasing the stability and well-being of our community,” asserts Raymond.
