Katherine Atkinson-

Tell us a bit about yourself

Until now I have been an arts management consultant, musician and performer committed to cultural democracy through the arts, engagement with communities and public policy. At Create, the national development agency for collaborative arts I was responsible for professional development, public art commissions, European projects, training, events and programme development. I was also responsible for the management of the Arts Council’s Artist in the Community Scheme.

I hold a MA in Public Culture Studies from the Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art Design and Technology; a Diploma of Theatre and Drama Studies from NUI Maynooth; a Certificate of Music TAFE South Australia. I am Australian, although, after 22 years in Ireland, I certainly feel Irish…I am married to musician and composer Simon Quigley.

Is the job as Music Generation Development Officer what you expected?

Yes…and…maybe. It all depends on us working together with the rich musical nature and skills of the people of Wexford.

What is a typical work day like for you?

Start with a plan, communicate with others, seek advice, adapt the plan, follow up with advisors, think about the music and go back to the new plan.

What is your favourite thing about your job?

At the moment I am meeting some great Wexford people, musicians and organisations all around the County. I am enjoying working closely with the Waterford Music Generation Development Officer and with the support team at the WWETB.

What are you hoping to change about the role?

As it’s a new role I hope to embed Music Generation Wexford well within the WWETB as a vital, inspirational and growing music education model.

What do you like to do outside of work?

Performing at and attending music, theatre and arts events. I’m interested in cultural democracy and current affairs, swimming, travel, family and friends. I am a member of Visual Arts Ireland and a member of the Unitarian Choir.
