Training Hub Enniscorthy

Changing Skills for Changing Jobs; Construction Technology

WWETB is seeking to establish a construction technology training hub in response to an identified need to provide

(a) A full range of certified sustainable energy performance education and training programmes that upskill the current and future construction workforce to meet the impending EU Nearly Zero Energy Building (nZEB) construction and renovations standard and regulations in 2018/2020.

(b) Opportunities offered by fully accessible and kitted FABLAB, 3D design and fabrication workshop to everyone in the community from young children through to entrepreneurs and businesses

(c) Specific technology focussed programmes that meet the current skill needs of employed and unemployed resulting from the increase in the use of and the impact of rapid technology changes in the manufacturing sectors with specific focus on construction

(d) The continuous high demand for forklift training from learners/unemployed and for skilled forklift drivers from employers

A business case was put together and SOLAS has approved to move the project to implementation phase in 2018. A FABLAB in conjunction with Wexford County Council should be ready to open in June 2018 with classes to begin in CAD 2D, CAD 3D, and 3D printing.

WWETB have assembled a national advisory group to assist in the development of the national skills specification for a number of trades, foreman and basic nZEB awareness. These national skills specifications will form the basis behind City & Guilds approved nZEB courses for qualified tradespersons. It is envisaged that courses will begin in Enniscorthy in the 3rd quarter of 2018.
